Click here to listen to a conversation with Shari Foos, founder of The Narrative Method, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering open dialogue in a respectful, judgment-free environment. Shari’s narrative practice centers on creativity as a means of connection and self-discovery through writing. By removing critique, even in the form of compliments, she fosters pure self-expression free from judgment. Rooted in her own experiences of growing up in a challenging environment with limited external validation, her method encourages personal dialogue and resilience, countering societal pressures that breed insecurity. She critiques the "cult of culture," which reinforces self-doubt through media and societal norms. Unlike traditional narrative medicine, her approach prioritizes deep listening over interpretation, allowing individuals to trust their voice without fear of response. More than storytelling, her method is about reclaiming one’s voice in a world that dictates what should be said and heard. The Narrative Method’s 12 Core Concepts serve as guiding principles for fostering meaningful conversations, deep connections, and creative self-expression.
